The sustainable ESG certification
In Alta Valtellina, our commitment to the present and the future
Living and working at 2,200 metres above sea level, surrounded by the peaks of the Foscagno Pass and the unspoilt nature of Alta Valtellina, teaches us the value of responsibility every single day.
That is why Hotel Interalpen has embarked on a concrete path to guarantee hospitality that respects the environment, values people and protects the local area.
This commitment has now also become official: our property has obtained the eLabel! Environmental Certification (issued by Kyoto Club, Label no. 0041), a milestone reached also thanks to the valuable support of the 2025 Sustainability Certifications Call by the Sondrio Chamber of Commerce.
It is not merely a label, but a daily philosophy that we have translated into tangible actions following the three pillars of sustainability: Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG – Environmental Social Governance).
Hospitality that respects the environment (Environmental)
We adopt environmentally friendly practices to minimise our establishment’s impact on the fragile Alpine ecosystem.
100% clean and renewable energy
All the electricity used in the hotel comes exclusively from certified renewable sources (Repower supply). In addition, the building’s energy efficiency is coordinated by an integrated home-automation system that shuts off the heating whenever windows are opened and optimises temperatures according to check-ins and check-outs, supported by a heatrecovery Controlled Mechanical Ventilation (CMV) system.
Preserving water resources
We have installed flow reducers on all taps and showers in the rooms to cut water waste, while also encouraging our guests to rationalise laundry washing through our “Let’s Help Nature” campaign.
Green cleaning and consumption
At least 50% of the products used to clean rooms and dishes hold Type 1 ecological certification (EU Ecolabel). We have also eliminated single-use toiletries in the bathrooms, replacing them with modern refillable liquid dispensers. Even 100% of the paper used in our offices and services is entirely recycled or Ecolabel-certified.
Local roots and inclusion (Social)
Sustainability also means the well-being of the local community, a welcoming environment free from barriers, and celebrating our heritage.
Zero-kilometre authenticity
Our cuisine celebrates Valtellina. On our à la carte menu and breakfast buffet we offer fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced within a radius of less than 70 km and from organic farming, alongside at least four certified regional specialities with PDO and PGI status (such as Bresaola della Valtellina PGI and Valtellina Casera PDO cheese).
Support for the circular and social economy
We work actively with local organisations. One example we are proud of? The delicious extra jams on our buffet are made by the local social cooperative “Il Sentiero”, which recovers small abandoned mountain farmland and provides work integration for disadvantaged people.
A hotel for everyone
We believe in accessible tourism. We have equipped the property with tools that support the independence, safety and comfort of guests with disabilities or special needs (covering the entrances, the rooms and the breakfast room) and we continuously train our staff to ensure qualified and inclusive hospitality.
Transparency, ethics and the fight against waste (Governance)
We run our business with strict compliance, accountability and transparency in every process.
Fighting food waste
We manage our kitchens’ daily surplus with the utmost care. To prevent still-edible food from going to waste, we have partnered with the international platform Too Good To Go, allowing our fresh daily “Surprise Bags” to be rescued.
Protecting labour and safety
We operate in full respect of workers’ rights and of health and safety regulations (Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008). We have implemented an internal, anonymous whistleblowing system, available in several languages, to protect the peace of mind of those who work with us.
Continuous monitoring
We periodically measure and record our consumption and emissions data in order to constantly plan new improvement measures and reduce our environmental impact over time.
